First emerging in March 2017 with her debut single “My Lover”, Mica Millar has quickly established herself as one of the Northwests most revered up and coming artists of 2017. Selling out her first hometown show at Manchester’s Whiskey Jar, Mica followed in late August with “Not The First” and was awarded BBC Introducing’s prestigious “Artist of The Week” gaining her national radio support that followed headline shows at Liverpool’s Buyers Club, The Domino Club, Leeds and a two-hundred-and-fifty capacity sell out launch show at The Deaf Institute, Manchester.
Mica‘s powerful and emotive performances have also been showcased at some of her hometown’s most well renowned concert halls including The Contact Theatre, The 02 Ritz and The Lowry as well as at music festivals across the UK including two headline slots in Festival Square at Manchester International Festival and main stage performances at Nozstock The Hidden Valley and Liverpool Loves Festival.
Described by The Manchester Evening News as “The next big thing” Mica has gained BBC Radio support both locally and nationally appearing on BBC Introducing Manchester, Mike Sweeney’s BBC Breakfast Show, BBC’s The People, BBC Merseyside, BBC Leeds and BBC Georgey Tonight as BBC Introducing’s “Artist of The Week”, performing live to a national audience of 7 Million across forty BBC stations.
Stunning the presenters with stripped back, raw performances of her singles, BBC Johnny L’anson said it was “a real honour to expose an artist with this level of talent through BBC Introducing” and Mike Sweeney said “I’ve listened to Etta James, Janice Joplin, some great singers over the years. MicaMillar’s voice is incredible. I suspect in the future, she’ll be doing a lot bigger venue’s than that and hopefully she’ll remember us here”. Mica will perform at Mike’s Christmas Live BBC broadcast from The Lowry Theatre in November this year.
Live performances bring together a soulful sixpence line up of musicians including souring gospel-inspired harmonies from her all female backing vocal trio, with Adisa Allen (The Mouse Outfit) on Drums, Ben Price (8 Gold Rings/Jenna & The G’s) on Bass and Liam Morson (Family Ranks) on keys.
As a vocalist and songwriter who’s talents have been compared to the likes of some of the greatest Soul and Jazz artists of all time including Etta James, Janice Joplin, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone, Micahas rightly established herself as “an artist to watch in 2018” (Karen Gabay, BBC/ITV).
